My background with metal began with being a construction mechanic. Part of the job was welding broken equipment back together. The welding led to building yard art for my wife, Bonnie. Then for her friends, and it just got bigger from there. It is both fun and hard work making things with metal. Everything I do is cut out by hand. I start with a steel sheet, draw out the images, Than cut them with a plasma cutter. I make stand alone pieces such as horses, dragonflies and flowers. I also incorporate the pieces into trellis’s that I build. It is fun being creative and finding things that people enjoy. I have made things as small as hummingbirds and butterflies to as large as a seven foot wide sun. I use heat as well as paint to color some of the pieces. When heating metal as it gets hotter the color of the steel goes from brown, to purple, than to shades of blue. The pieces I color with heat are than coated with a clear gloss paint to help preserve them. I have one show coming up May 19th, 20th, and the 21st in Damascus.
